Gemstones are mined in the region known as Chumar Bakhoor or Chumar Bakur, which is situated in the Sumayar Valley of the Nagar District in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The location has an elevation of 5,520 metres. Geographically speaking, it is also situated in closer proximity to Oyum-Nagar (Nagarkhas). It takes around four to five hours to reach the pegmatites that crop out on the western slope of the mountain at a height of more than four thousand metres if you walk there from the centre of Sumayar. According to Appiani (2007), the gemstone resources in Chumar Bakhoor were found for the first time in 1984 by a local hunter named Muhammad Shah. This information comes from Blauwet and Shah (2004). Aquamarine, Fluorite, Apatite, Calcite, and Quartz are some of the valuable and semi-precious gemstones that may be found in Chumar Bakhoor. Other possible examples include Garnet.

Located in the Nagar District of Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan, the little valley known as Sumayar, Sumayr, or Sumer (Urdu: ; Burushaski: ) has a few different names.
