Solar Panel Prices Drop in Pakistan Amid Government’s Planned Net Metering Cuts
Solar panel prices in Pakistan have come down sharply as the government has proposed a major cut in net metering buyback rates. This has unsettled investors and customers in the solar industry.
Solar panel rates have fallen by 25% in Hyderabad and other places of Sindh. For example, a Grade A 585 watt panel that cost Rs 22,000 earlier is now sold for around Rs 16,500.
The plan of dropping buyback rates to encourage use of renewable power is now being seen in the scene as the market lowers solar panel prices.

Last month, the Solar Association strongly opposed the government’s decision to reduce solar net metering rates and that was a bad move for the solar sector, it said in opposition.
Speaking to a press conference, Adil Mahmood, chairman solar association, said decision by government to reduce solar rates was against the efforts taken by it in Pakistan to promote solar energy during past many years and with huge investment of whole period.
But Adil Mahmood has highlighted that the government, including the President and the Prime Minister had earlier advised and encouraged solar investments but now it is ‘U turning’ from what it said.
