China Discovers One of Earth’s Largest Gold Deposits, Worth €78 Billion

China Discovers One of Earth’s Largest Gold Deposits

Historic Gold Find in Hunan Could Reshape Global Mining Industry

One of the largest gold reserve in ever found in history—a supergiant deposit—of buried gold underneath Pingjiang County’s Wangu gold field of Hunan province is recently found by geologists in China. The gold is estimated to be worth over 1,000 metric tons (€78 billion or 600 billion yuan) and has been hailed as a milestone for the China and the global gold industry.

A Gold-Rich Landscape Revealed Beneath the Surface

A spokesman for the Geological Bureau of Hunan Province said there were more than 40 distinct gold veins at depths of 2,000 meters and initial estimates were that 300 tons of gold were mined. However, drilling at 3,000 meters brought much larger reserves to light, advancing them for a total above 1,000 tons—which makes it one of the richest gold deposits on the record.

It is equally remarkable for being so well mineralized. Visible gold had been extracted from some of the rock cores, and ore concentrations in them reached 138 grams per metric ton—very unusual for a large scale mine.

“Many drilled rock cores showed visible gold,” said Chen Rulin, an ore-prospecting expert, underscoring the deposit’s unprecedented richness.

Precision Through Advanced Geological Modeling

It wasn’t an accidental discovery, 3D geological modeling of cutting edge bent was used as well. These scientists then used the technology to map underground gold veins with pinpoint accuracy and drill sites toward the most mineral rich veins/areas.

“Gold was also found in peripheral areas,” noted Liu Yongjun, vice head of the Hunan Geological Bureau, suggesting the deposit’s full extent may still expand.

Economic Boom & Environmental Challenges

Economic Impact:

✅ Boost to China’s Gold Reserves – Strengthens the country’s position in global markets.
✅ Job Creation & Infrastructure Growth – Expected to generate thousands of jobs and spur new transport and energy networks.
✅ Foreign Investment Magnet – Likely to attract major international mining firms.

Environmental Concerns:

⚠ Land & Water Degradation – Large-scale mining risks ecological damage.
⚠ Carbon Emissions – Extraction and refining processes must meet strict sustainability standards.

The Future of the Wangu Gold Field

The potential from you can fill the economic is huge, although experts stressed recognizable mining practices to balance profitability and protection of the environment. This deposit could generate China’s economy for decades if properly managed and usher in a new era of environmentally sustainable resource extraction.

“This isn’t just a gold mine—it’s a test case for the future of mining,” said an industry analyst.
