The new mineral in China, Yo, is Jinxiuite, nickel-bismuth-antimony-arsenic sulfide, which was green-lit by the International Mineralogical Association in December 2025. It was discovered directly in the center of a nickel-cobalt ore in the Longhua region of Jinxiu Yao Autonomous County, in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, in the South of China.
Key Details
- Composition and Properties:Thus, the formula of Jinxiuite would be approximate Ni 8 Bi 2 Sb As S 6. It is basically a sulfide that contains a ton of nickel which appears as dark greenish-black or grayish grains in ore samples.
The deposit of which it is composed is extremely rich, about 17.5 per cent nickel and 1.5 per cent cobalt, and that is far above standard mining grades.
- Discovery Story: Therefore, I got to know that the mineral was originally discovered in June 2025 when the ore which was found was being studied during the construction of a small hydropower plant, which had been discovered in 2006. The name had been coined by the researchers of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences according to the site of the discovery.
- Significance: Yo, this discovery is a huge one to China, particularly because they are heavily dependent on the cobalt imports to build batteries and technology. The Jinxiuite may trigger the new energy storage materials or provide us with information about the geologic history of the earth in billions of years. It is regarded as some kind of natural design blueprint and this can result in artificial substances that are more efficient and cleaner to use in technology.

Here’s a sample of Jinxiuite ore for visual reference:
Therefore, geologists made the official announcement about the discovery of the new mineral in one of the most prolific deposits of the planet- a breakthrough!
On the photograph you have published, the samples might be of a similar nickel-cobalt environment–perhaps oxidized material with blue-green colors on secondary minerals such as nickel arsenates or silicates. Assuming it is not Jinxiuite and you are talking of some other discovery, you can give me the details!
