Iran, EU3 to Meet over Nuclear Talks in Switzerland

A fresh round of nuclear talks between Iran and European troika is scheduled to take place in Geneva Tuesday, August 26, a source told Tasnim.

According to the informed source, the next meeting of the Iranian team with the United Kingdom, France and Germany on the one hand and Iran, will concern problems of the nuclear issue, on the other hand, the discussion and cancellation of sanctions against Iran.

Iranian Delegation Leadership

The delegation of Iran will be led by Iran Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht Ravanchi.

Recent Diplomatic Conversations

On Friday, Abbas Araqchi, the Iranian foreign minister, held phone conversations with the UK, the France, and the Germany foreign ministers and with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

He cautioned the European parties against any effort to invoke so-called snapback mechanism of the 2015 nuclear deal as both legally untenable and immorally unjustified, with dire consequences.

Warnings Against the Snapback Mechanism

Araqchi also warned the three European nations that they had no right to trigger the mechanism. Comments on European proposals to extend the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 to give more time to diplomacy, he note that this is entirely the mandate of the Security Council.

It did not want to engage in such a process, he said, even though Iran reaffirmed the commitment to its principled approach.

EU3 and EU’s Diplomatic Position

On their part, the EU3 and the EU foreign policy chief, restated their intentions of engaging in a diplomatic solution.
